new ecological reserve has been established in southern Yucatán.
Named after Helen Moyers, the benefactor who made purchase
of the reserve lands possible, it is located on the private lands
historically known as Rancho Kiuic, which surround the prehispanic
Maya ruins of Kiuic. These are approximately 10 kilometers (6.25
miles) south of the community of Xul, in the Municipality of Oxkutzcab.
The geographic region is known as the Bolonchen District, which
is an area of rolling hills between the two ridge systems of the
